In 1928, Joseph Stalin envisioned a modern industrial Soviet Union and began a fivesome Year Plan to remedy industry, transportation and Collectivize agriculture. While Stalins Plan ab initio appealed to Russians, his desire for rapid industrialization included harsh employment with unrealistic incentives, and the collectivization of farms that resulted in the destruction of productivity. Wages were low, shortages were gross and the standard of living remained poor. The workers had nonhing to show for their extreme sacrifices.
